Planning permission was granted in December 2021 for the demolition of the existing foodstore (occupied by Iceland) and construction of a part-three, part-four and part-five storey over basement building containing a replacement foodstore (to be occupied by Lidl) and 25 x private rented sector (PRS) units on the upper floors with related facilities. The Council originally resolved to grant planning permission in November 2019 and prior to case law (Holborn Studios) dictating the need for public consultation on the applicant’s financial viability assessment, which was duly done. The application then had to be withdrawn and resubmitted following a cyberattack on the Council’s electronic database, which necessitated the merits of the proposed development being re-examined against the provisions of the newly adopted Local Plan.
