Instructed directly on behalf of St. Dunstan’s College, a co-educational independent day school in Catford, south-east London, planning permission was secured in March 2019 for the construction of a new Junior School and STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) building extending over part-two, part-three and part-four storeys with a glazed atrium connecting into the west elevation of the former Headmaster’s House, with related demolition works and landscaping (including formal/informal areas of play). We were instructed at the grass-roots stage of the project and led the pre-application engagement of Lewisham Borough Council (as decision-making authority) and Sport England (relative to part-playing field area encroachment). The Council was formally engaged under a Planning Performance Agreement, which process included presentation to the Council’s Design Review Panel. The permission was later amended in December 2019 under Section 73 application. Our involvement also extended to securing planning permission for the part-change of use of the school pavilion to a day care nursery and construction of a floodlit all-weather hockey pitch on the school’s Jubilee Ground, which is designated MOL.
